Two Human Rights Events Postponed

The shocking incidents in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania this week, have forced organizers to postpone two major activities promoting the rights of children around the world have been postponed:

  • The UN Special Session on Children's Rights scheduled for September 19 - 21 and
  • The March for Children's Rights planned for September 18.

Strong Haitian participation was expected for the Special Session, including a delegation of 14 Non-Governmental organization members including COHADDE, FONEP, GHRAP, and several children as well as President Jean Bertrand Arisitde and his wife Mildred. NCHR was also working to organize a significant Haitian participation the the Children's March to remind world leaders of their responsibilities toward Haiti's children.

Great strides have been made in recent years in educating people everywhere about the plight of restavčks, Haitian children in domestic servitude and one of Haiti's most vulnerable populations. These activities would have helped garner additional support for an estimated 300,000 restavčks as well as for the rest of Haiti's children. We urge you to learn more about the situation of these children and to get involved in improving their lives

NCHR condemns the acts of violence that devastated millions in Tuesday's brutal attacks and offers its condolences to the the families and friends of the victims and salutes the brave men and women who have worked tirelessly in the rescue effort.
