Description of HELCEP Workshops

Training Workshops build awareness among Haitian entrants of the particulars regarding their rights on numerous topics.  These topics include:  civic, housing, immigration, worker, healthcare, and education rights.  Police, judicial, and legal personnel also receive training pertaining to the culture and history of the Haitian community so as to result in better interactions between the community and the larger institutions.  These trainings are a roadmap that will establish our community and help them to navigate and interface with the American system and become true civic participants.  These workshops are currently being held in schools, churches, and community based organizations in the New York area.
